I'm very aware of the conspiracy theories that are floating about that question the origin of HIV or the link between HIV and AIDS. I don't think that was a main thrust of the episode, though... it might have been much funnier if it was.

There was much more focus on the declining amount of celebrity attention on AIDS (i.e. Elton John being unavailable, nobody showing up to the benefit concert, the airline would let the boys aboard if they had cancer and not AIDS, etc...) than the cause of AIDS. Plus, the satirical notion that all it takes to cure a disease is a hundred thousand dollars is right in line with much of South Park's humor.

It wasn't a bad episode, just a mis-timed one that would have been funnier four years ago.

I read lots of negetive feedbacks about the first episode (tonsil trouble) of this new season of South Park. But I think people who are not aware of the current floating conspiracy theories in the WWW didn't get the episode. The theory about HIV virus being the real cause of AIDS is being highly suspected. One of the related documnentries I watched on google video was AIDS Inc.
So, I think as usual South Park has done its job by picking one of the controversila issues and serving it in a layman term. I enjoyed the episode as much as I enjoy every other episode of South Park.
